"Growing Minds" Teacher Grant

  • Provide K-12 teachers with funding and resources to develop and execute creative, hands-on projects that actively engage students in learning about horticulture, agriculture, environmental science, ecology, and natural resources
  • Enhance critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and environmental awareness while aligning with curriculum standard.

2024 Grant Winner

The 2024 grant was awarded to ELLEN ROMERO of Russellville H.S. for her project, “Russellville Greenhouse: Gardens and Growth.” She is pictured with her students, Tanner Trinklein, President of Russellville FFA and Jada Schmidt, Treasurer of Russellville FFA.

The “Growing Minds” Grant is designed to:

  • Support K-12 teachers in implementing new or expanding existing innovative projects that enhance students’ understanding of horticulture, agriculture, environmental science, ecology, and natural resources.
  • Foster a deeper appreciation for sustainable practices, and ecological stewardship.
  • Provide K-12 teachers with funding and resources to develop and execute creative, hands-on projects that actively engage students.
  • Enhance critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and environmental awareness while aligning with curriculum standard.

Funding and Eligibility

  • Grants up to $500 may be awarded to eligible K-12 educators as funds are available.
  • All public and private K-12 teachers in Jefferson City and surrounding school districts may apply.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a clear plan for an educational project related to horticulture, agriculture, environmental science, ecology, or natural resources.

Project Criteria – Applicants are encouraged to propose projects that:

  • Integrate hands-on activities and experiments to promote active learning and student engagement.
  • Incorporate interdisciplinary approaches, connecting various subjects to foster a holistic understanding of the topics.
  • Promote sustainable practices and awareness of environmental issues.
  • Encourage community involvement and collaboration with local organizations or experts in the respective fields.

Application Process

  • Applications must be submitted online by March 15, 2025. 
  • Grant applicants will be notified of the grant review decisions.
